«The Magic of Making», in cooperation with BBC Worldwide, takes us into the glass blowing workshop to answer the question: How do the colorful swirls of color actually get into the marbles? While wooden and clay balls have been around for as long as anyone can remember, glass marbles are a relatively recent invention, only a few hundred years old. During production, everything starts with a granulate that is basically nothing more than sand. But once melted, things get really hot. The glassblower takes a lump of viscous glass from the special oven and presses it into a flat sandwich. Then the two of you continue. The team pulls the glass apart like chewing gum and twists it in at the same time for the beautiful color effects on the inside. Work continues with this glass candy cane until finally a magnificent ball can be separated from the end. After it has cooled down, you can start playing marbles or simply look at the beautiful glass works of art.
Everyone is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.
