«The Walking Dead» enters its eighth installment today in the US&A, which could be the bloodiest of all. The walking corpses and their never-ending hunger are the least of Rick and Co's problems right now. Season 8 "TWD" will mainly focus on the war we've all been waiting for, because Rick Grimes finally offers Negan the Forehead. Alexandria, along with Hilltop and the Kingdom, rebels against the Saviors and the Junkyard Gang.
"The Walking Dead" has captivated viewers in front of their screens for 99 episodes. Tomorrow, October 23, 2017, FOX will be broadcasting the 100th episode of the zombie series in German-speaking countries. This is also the prelude to the 8th season, in which Rick and his people fight for their survival. A huge war between the two fronts should decide how things will go for both sides in the future. In the upcoming season, Rick is declaring all-out war against Negan and his accomplices. The Redeemers are now larger, better armed, and absolutely ruthless. Rick and the united communities fight for a better future. But to achieve their goal, they must put all their power into a very massive, well-considered attack. So far, the will to survive has ruled the lives of Rick and his group, but that is no longer enough. In order to regain their freedom and be able to live "normally" again, they have to fight. That's the only way they can start again.
As much as we look forward to all the action and battles, war always comes with many casualties. Since almost all nameless Alexandria residents have found their deaths in the meantime, the main characters are now on the collar. So we must tremble for the survival of our favorite characters who once again put their lives in danger. However, with Rick leading the Alexandria squad, Maggie leading the Hilltops, and King Ezekiel leading the kingdom, it should be possible to win the war - or can Negan actually take on all of them? In the following Season 8 teaser, titled "Come Together," we see Alexandria, Hilltop, and the kingdom banding together to prepare for war together. They are led by Rick, who motivates them with statements such as "The world belongs to us". Maggie also appeals to the survivors and promises them that if they stick together, the future is certain. Also, in one scene we see Carl in a very hopeless position when he is attacked by two zombies.
Season 8 kicks off with a close-up of Rick Grimes and we quickly sense that it's him dominating the plot, not Negan. This was different in season 7, where Negan pushed himself more into the center of attention, but now the tide is turning. In the new episodes, a new way of telling the story has also been chosen. The 7th season of "The Walking Dead" was not easy for Daryl Dixon, first he was responsible for Glenn's death, then he was taken hostage and tortured by Negan. So it's no wonder that he wants one thing above all in the new episodes: revenge! And because of that, the biker is arguably becoming a lot more ruthless than we've ever seen them before. Daryl is on a mission and let's be honest: we've missed this Daryl for a long time. Another teaser shows Rick speaking to his people and telling them that they've already won. Alexandria is optimistic, even if the war will claim more victims. We can also catch a glimpse of Judith, from whom Rick seems to be saying goodbye. At another moment, it seems as if Rick is gathering his strength in front of Abraham and Glenn's graves and reminding himself that they also owe it to their killed friends to win.
In fact, one can already assume a great loss, because according to the comic book Ezekiel's tiger does not survive the war against the Saviors. In Robert Kirkman's comics, Shiva dies early in the all-out war while rescuing King Ezekiel from a horde of walkers. If you keep your eyes open, you can see a scene in the trailers in which Carl fights a group of zombies. The situation looks bad and… wait, what is he lying there on? If you take the focus away from Carl and the zombies, you will see that Carl is lying on an animal's corpse. The fur of the animal corpse is orange and it looks as if the death of Tiger Shiva is spoiled here. The eighth season of «The Walking Dead» is action-packed like never before. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, actor Seth Gilliam (Father Gabriel) compared the episodes to a "Schwarzenegger versus Stallone film" from the 80s. "I think there are about ten explosions per episode. Every time you turn around someone is shooting at something or blowing something up." There hasn't been such action on television since the "A-Team". Episode 1 is titled "Mercy" and is supposed to be about Rick's group taking the fight to the Sanctuary. The 2nd episode is titled «The Damned» in which the residents of Alexandria, Hilltop and the Kingdom carry out their elaborate plan. Meanwhile, Rick meets a familiar face in his fight. Is there a surprise comeback for a character we weren't expecting? "Monsters" is the title of the third episode, in which the clashes with the Saviors cause "unintended consequences". That could really mean anything, but it sounds a little bit like we should be prepared for the first losses.
Below are the first three minutes of the season opener, which make one thing clear above all, fans have to pay close attention this time, because the series constantly jumps back and forth between past, present and future. At the very beginning we see an old Rick lying in bed with a cane. The camera pans over an almost peaceful scenario: A bright room, fresh flowers and the song "Another One Rides The Bus" by Weird Al Yankovic is playing in the background. Is this a glimpse of a future without Negan and the Saviors? The next moment we see Rick in Hilltop in front of Glenn and Abraham's graves. A few seconds later, he's back among Alexandria, Hilltop, and the Kingdom to address his comrades and friends with a speech. The war has started. Rick is willing to kill Negan even if it means dying himself. Rick looks different. There is nothing left of the man we witnessed in the first half of Season 7. His determination is downright contagious. Next scene - and we see Carol and Tara apparently luring in a zombie herd to use in the fight. Dwight, meanwhile, is informed by an arrow, presumably from Daryl, with a message that the attack will take place tomorrow. The highlight of the first three minutes are Rick's last words to the assembled group: "There is only one person who needs to die," announces the former sheriff, "and I will kill him myself... I will... I will."
In addition, Negan is said to lose the title as the most hated character of «The Walking Dead» in the 8th season. This is revealed by a journalist from the US site “TV Line” without revealing too much. Right in the 1st episode, there is said to be a "disgusting" act in the Saviors vs. Alexandria war, which is so blatant that this unnamed character easily receives the title "Most hated character in the series" and replaces Negan. On the one hand, that sounds good, on the other hand, it also indicates that we can expect a nerve-wracking moment.
