In Lars von Trier's “The House That Jack Built” we accompany the highly intelligent serial killer named Jack (Matt Dillon) over a period of twelve years. Jack regards every single one of his murders as a work of art and regularly exchanges ideas with the mysterious Verge (Bruno Ganz). While the police have come closer and closer to the killer over the years, Jack takes ever greater risks because he is not yet satisfied with his work. The first trailer shocks with drastic, often bloody images and Matt Dillon in what is perhaps his most demanding role. It is namely he who is allowed to act as the psychopathic killer and score alongside Bruno Ganz and Uma Thurman. Von Trier already worked with the latter on his two-part “Nymphomanic”. We also see Riley Keough (Mad Max: Fury Road), a granddaughter of Elvis Presley and the experienced David Bailie.
They wander in the darkness, seeking the light, not realizing that the light lies at the heart of darkness.
