The new edition by Dennis Widmyer and Kevin Kolsch is supposed to score points above all with its scary factor: "The chances are pretty good that we are facing one of the scariest Stephen King adaptations of all time," enthuses Jeff Buhler (Midnight Meat Train), who works as a screenwriter allowed to participate in the modern re-adaptation. I have terribly fond memories of the first film adaptation back in 1989. If the remake, starring Jason Clarke, Amy Seimetz, John Lithgow, Jeté Laurence and Hugo Lavoie, is even half as intense, then today's kiddies will be in for a treat. "Sometimes it's better to be dead!" says Jud Crandall, Dr. Louis Creed and his wife Rachel. But when their child dies in a tragic accident, Louis asks his neighbors for help, unintentionally triggering a dangerous chain reaction that unleashes something profoundly evil and threatens the newly won family idyll. The Creeds quickly realize that sometimes death is actually better. Because, as connoisseurs of the book and film should already know, the pet cemetery in the sleepy town of Ludlow raises the dead in a mean, malicious form! Characters like the chronically ill and terrifying Zelda or Victor Pascow shouldn't be missing in the new film, which is supposed to stick much more specifically to Stephen King's novel. The film starts in our latitudes on April 4th, 2019...
