In thrash we trust! And "subned”Stand for Thrash Metal from Switzerland. With their debut EP “Hazardous Substances” they came into the public eye for the first time in 2011 and on November 21 of this year their first full length album “From Space” was released. The troupe is led by a lady named Lucie Werlen, Raymond Weibel plucks the bass, Valentin Mössinger the guitar and Stefan Häberli pounds the heads. The sound can easily be classified in the direction of “Destruction”, “Overkill” or “Legion of the Damned”, but “Suborned” don't just copy clumsily, they bring a lot of their own ideas and arrangements into their sound.

Suborned - From Space

"subned”Were launched in 2010 and after a few successful local live shows at the“ Little Creek Studio ”(including“ Destruction ”,“ Fear My Thoughts ”,“ Pro-Pain ”) they quickly found themselves back to the debut EP“ Hazardous Substances ” ”, Which was received extremely positively in the scene. This first step was followed by further success in the live sector and so the band was able to share domestic and foreign stages with bands such as “Destruction”, “Municipal Waste” or “Vader”. Subsequently, in 2013, preparations began for their first full-length album “From Space”, which was recorded again in “Little Creek Studio”. After the departure of their then drummer Remo, the record was recorded by the multiple Swiss drum champion Alain Ackermann.

With “From Space”, “Suborned” is an album with a lot of potential. The young band has dedicated themselves to Thrash Metal, you certainly can't expect much innovation here, but the cloverleaf around front woman Lucie puts a lot of pressure and can fully rely on his technical skills. The breaks are perfectly staged by a well-harmonized rhythm section and the riffs are absolutely international. Lucie's vocals are also positive and their vocals are somewhere in the area of Overkill's Bobby and Destruction's Lubricant. Nice and aggressive, but still useful for the overall sound and well staged. Musically, the four of them have dedicated themselves to old school Thrash Metal and they really get going with “Hit It”. The riffs sound pleasantly mangy and the production is entirely in keeping with the musical direction. They push forward mercilessly, appropriately shredded in terms of guitar technology by Valentin Mössinger.

Suborned - band

The following title track “From Space” continues this path and complements the sound with a typical Speed Metal riff of the 80s. Strong entry and the bullet bad! Introduced with an ingenious lead guitar, a melody that is literally celebrated a couple of times in the song, this song automatically turns out to be the highlight of the album. On the tracks “Sexolence” and “My Steps”, none other than Meister Lubricates himself personally. The first mentioned song is absolutely great and sounds really mature, while it even appears virtuoso in some passages. What a composition! With “Under the Yoke” Suborned have another fat Thrasher on the album, with which one can make this long iron palatable to every genre lover. You can also hear the mid-tempo stomper “Bitch” with a wonderful gutter-like chorus. Dirty and disreputable - Lucie, how can you ?! "My Step" is a little lacking in ideas. Unfortunately, these seem to have run out of “Suborned” towards the end.

The quintessence of this album is clearly on speed and “full in the face”, but in between times the foot is taken off the gas and worked with slo-mo riffs. With “From Space”, “Suborned” put a neat sole on the floor. The mix of nice musical ideas and uncompromisingness can completely convince, borrowings from Overkill, Destruction and now and then also Slayer are useful to the Swiss and have absolutely no negative effect. Compared to the EP, the catchy tunes of the songs have been honed a lot and, for example, “Bitch” and “Under The Yoke” have two real live grenades in their repertoire. Otherwise, the song structures are fortunately still by no means unimaginative, but peppered with many details. Unfortunately, the vocals cannot always keep up with the strong instrumental faction. In the choruses this aspect may not be noticeable due to the use of gangshouts, but in the verses it is very clear. Especially in “Simply Darwin” and “My Step” it is noticeable that shouter Lucie has to work hard to keep up with the rest and sometimes she runs out of breath.

Suborned - band

Conclusion on “From Space”: Fabulous thunderstorm - the extraterrestrials have landed! The course has been set, the concept fits and the homework has also been done. With a little more variety and a solid live performance, a lot more of “Suborned” should be heard in the future. An interesting disc that still leaves room for improvement, for example when you are working on the vocals, there is still a lot in it! Producer VO powder (some of them maybe from Poltergeist or GurD known) has forged an appropriate sound in his Little Creek Studios that leaves absolutely nothing to be desired by Thrash standards. Thrashers should definitely check out the band. If you have Thrash Metal in your blood, you will get a real headache here.

"Dravens Tales from the Crypt" has been enchanting for over 15 years with a tasteless mixture of humor, serious journalism - for current events and unbalanced press reporting politics - and zombies, garnished with lots of art, entertainment and punk rock. Draven has turned his hobby into a popular brand that cannot be classified.

My blog was never designed to spread news, let alone get political, but with current affairs I just can't help but capture information here that is otherwise censored on all other channels. I'm aware that the design page may not seem "serious" to many in this regard, but I won't change it to please the "mainstream". Anyone who is open to non-state-compliant information sees the content and not the packaging. I've tried enough to provide people with information over the last 2 years, but quickly noticed that it never matters how it is "packaged", but what the other person's attitude towards it is. I don't want to put honey on anyone's mouth to meet expectations in any way, so I'll keep this design because hopefully at some point I'll be able to stop making these political statements, because it's not my goal to go on like this forever ;) I leave it up to everyone how they deal with it.
