It's been almost a week since Kiss was on her Sonic Boom Over Europe Tour stop in Zurich and after a turbulent week I'm only now really getting around to putting a little concert review in the crypt. And as the time of this week passed by in a flash, Kiss flew through the Hallenstadion and after almost 40 years on the stage still showed himself to be extremely vital. With over 80 million albums sold, they are among the most successful rock bands of all time. Last Sunday, band founders Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons as well as bandmates Tommy Thayer and Eric Singer entered the stage in the Hallenstadion in Zurich.
Already on the way to the Hallenstadion it was made clear which band would be on stage that evening. Hundreds of fans had painted the white grimaces of their idols on their faces and shortly before nine o'clock the time had come: "All right Zurich! You wanted the best, you got the best: The hottest band in the world: KISS!» The big, black curtain in front of the stage fell to the ground as Paul, Gene and Tommy were driven onto the boards that mean the world with the help of a raised platform, covered in lots of dry ice and glistening light. The stage is monstrous, the drums are placed high and the band logo is emblazoned in the top middle, as you know it well from earlier times.
Paul sang at least at the beginning quite passable, Gene stalked around the stage in the usual manner and made his famous grimaces, in which his sloppy tongue played the main role as always. The Ace Frehley replacement Tommy Thayer soon recommended himself as the clearly better musician and drummer Eric Singer complements the current line-up perfectly. Of course, the legendary announcements from Starchild Paul Stanley could not be missing and the stage waited with bold light, lush dry ice and a good sound. That's how it should be!
Although we know from Paul Stanley that he now has artificial hip joints, we didn't notice any compromises during the show, on the contrary, our Starchild often jumped around like a young doe. Kiss celebrated the perfect rock show, despite a few vocal cuts, and the better known songs were still to come. Suddenly, but not unexpectedly, the first bra flew onto the stage, which of course was quickly hung on the mic stand and Simmons spat fire ...
The legendary solo appearance by Flattermann Gene Simmons was also a must. This included the calamity-conjuring rumble of thunder of his instrument and the fake blood fed up, plus the now well-known flight insert, in which Gene was attached to ropes in the appropriate corset and placed on a pedestal at the level of the light show in order to access the raging hall from above conduct.
Incidentally, after the concert at the merch stand, there was a USB stick with the recording of the concert in Zurich. Business-minded gentlemen!
The songs played were:
- Modern Day Delilah
- Cold gin
- Let Me Go Rock 'N' Roll
- Firehouse
- Say yeah
- Deuce
- Crazy Crazy Nights
- calling dr love
- Shock me
- I'm an animal
- 100,000 Years
- I love it loud
- Love gun
- Black Diamond
- Detroit Rock City
- Lick it up
- Shout it out loud
- I Was Made For Lovin 'You
- God Gave Rock And Roll To You
- Rock and Roll All Nite
Unfortunately the audience didn't show quite as much vitality as the band. The fans sang and applauded, but the stadium only really cooked in the encore block with the smash hit "I was made for loving you". A pity…
By the way, I have the videos on Youtube User jaguarxj40 and the pictures on Flickr in the album of meseon tour and chrchr_75 found. Thanks for putting them on the web.
