We all know that life is finite. But how much time do I have left? According to Brazilian researchers, this can be found out with the help of a simple fitness exercise, they write in the "European Journal of Cardiology". The team led by Claudio Gil Araujo from the University of Gama Filho in Rio de Janeiro has developed a simple exercise that can give an approximate indication of how long you have left to live.
The so-called sitting rising test was originally developed to test the mobility of athletes. But according to the researchers, it is also suitable for making more weighty statements. In their study, in which around 2000 subjects between 50 and 81 years of age participated, it was found that those who managed to get up a maximum of three times in ten attempts to stand up without aids were five times more likely to die in the next six years than the test subjects with more than eight successful attempts. Araujo had the idea when he wanted to explain to his patients that they also have to keep fit in old age.
