However, it is a common misconception that the beverage manufacturer invented the character, because its actual creator was a German immigrant in the US&A. As early as 1862, Thomas Nast, who was born in the Palatinate, began to draw "Santa Claus" for the magazine "Harper's Weekly" - initially with a light brown coat.
