The first trailer for the Tomb Raider reboot is out now and little was known about the plot until now. At least without Angelina Jolie, because every film without Angelina Jolie is a bit better than every film with Angelina Jolie. «Tomb Raider» is actually always about finding a mysterious artifact before the villains succeed. For long stretches, the trailer is strongly reminiscent of the first part of the video game reboot from 2013. However, this is by no means intended as criticism, after all the return or the restart of the young Lara Croft was successful and was able to convince fans and critics alike. The new cast Alicia Vikander, who has already made a name for herself in «Ex Machina» or «The Danish Girl», is also convincing. But when I look at the first real trailer for the reboot of the film series, which has so far completely passed me by, I can actually hold on to it: well.
The similarities between the game and the film are enormous, the Norwegian director Roar Uthaug also borrows some elements from the second game, as Lara Croft is looking for her father and his legacy in the film. Uthaug took a particularly close look at the first game, both visually and in terms of content. The shipwrecked Lara Croft ends up stranded with a companion on an island, which is also the actual goal of her search. However, she falls into the clutches of the villains, she escapes and from then on defends herself against them with a bow and arrow, among other things. According to the trailer, there are also a lot of passages in which Miss Croft runs, jumps and dodges obstacles, even a plane wreck known from the game should not be missing. Of course, video game adaptations never have an easy time surviving in the cinema, and it hardly matters whether a film is close to the original or not. Whether Tomb Raider will succeed in breaking this trend will be seen from mid-March 2018 ...
