«The Autopsy of Jane Doe» is the first feature film that Norwegian director André Øvredal shot in English. He had previously attracted attention with his film Trollhunter (2010). The Autopsy of Jane Doe premiered in September 2016 at the Toronto International Film Festival. In the original cast, Michael Sheen was supposed to play the father. However, he had to leave the project after scheduling difficulties and was then replaced by Brian Cox
Tony Tilden (Brian Cox) and his son Austin (Emile Hirsch) are both coroners and run the Tilden Morgue & Crematorium funeral home together in Virginia. On a stormy night, at the last minute, they get the body of a beautiful nameless young woman (Olwen Catherine Kelly) delivered by Sheriff Sheldon (Michael McElhatton), who found her body in a house with four other murdered people, and by morning results on her origin or cause of death needs. So Austin postpones the date with his girlfriend Emma (Ophelia Lovibond) for a few hours and begins the autopsy of Jane Doe with his father, who, like all dead women of unknown origin, receives this name. The longer the examination of the two men lasts, the more puzzling are their results: on the outside, the corpse does not show any injuries, but inside, things look very different. In addition, she did not lapse into rigor mortis. Strange phenomena suddenly occur in the basement of the funeral home and soon father and son no longer know whether they will ever leave their jobs again.
