Detlev Buck has made another film that is set in Cambodia and David Kross is there again. What I see here in the trailer definitely looks very interesting. Very, very great pictures that you often find when you go abroad because you have a different perspective on things. So much for the plot:
Finally finished with school - life offers many possibilities, but Ben (David Kross) does not see a direction. A backpacker tour to Asia with friend and roommate Ed (Stefan Konarske) is his first journey into the wide globalized world, his questions «What am I doing here? Why I'm here? What would I do anywhere else?" always in the bag. In the pleasant company of Ed, new travel acquaintances Alex (Michael Ostrowski), Regula (Marie Jung), Marie (Lucile Charlemagne) and a few joints, you can philosophize about it in a relaxed manner.
The encounter with Sreykeo (Apinya Sakuljaroensuk) kidnaps Ben from the unreal freedom of backpacker country into the reality of Phnom Penh. Sreykeo is fun-loving, open and open-minded, but she doesn't fool Ben. Life with her is fun, but she also needs money, takes care of her family during the day, works at night. She only has one dream. A man, a child and a place where it belongs. Ben feels so much joie de vivre on her wild trips through Phnom Penh, the encounters with her family in the city and in the country, as he has not for a long time. Sreykeo knows that you can't rely on people in transit, but Ben does things that no one has ever done to her: he takes her to the doctor and buys her a ring.
Even after his return to Germany, Ben cannot forget Sreykeo. The internship he is doing with his brother Henry at a newspaper fills him with longing rather than satisfaction. Ed can't do much about it either, even his girlfriend Lilli (Wanda Badwal) is impressed by Ben's demeanor. Then Ben learns from Sreykeo that her chronic cough is not caused by tonsillitis, but that her body is weakened by an HIV infection. Ben takes a test and is relieved: negative. Nevertheless, he falls into a deep hole: what should he do? She is his great love! Ben goes through a time of challenges, misunderstandings and doubts until he understands that Sreykeo's dream is his too.
Wow, the movie looks kinda good. Not artificial and garnix. Simply «real». That could be because it's a true story and not a story boozed up by unimaginative authors. I have to take a look. By the way, the song is in the trailer of «Live la party» and is called «Noir Desir».
