Metallica played yesterday in rural Toggenburg. 37 fans from home and abroad found their way to the concert and the band was able to more than satisfy the fans. Two and a half hours of hard, cracking Thrash Metal at its best. Practically only songs from the early years of Metallica, from albums like “Kill em all”, “Master of Puppets”, “Ride the lightning” and “… and Justice for all” were played. Metallica. Jonschwil. As it was, with a few pictures, staring and moving.

Now that I had almost a day to heal my neck, I would like to briefly record here how the concert in Degenaupark in Jonschwil was yesterday. In any case, I still have a great pull on the neck - as it should be - which will certainly be noticeable for the next few days, but what the heck, one thing should be said in advance, the concert was an absolute hit! But one by one ...

It finally happened yesterday, Sunday, after all, I've been waiting for this day since March. At 15 p.m. we made our way from Bern towards Eastern Switzerland, more precisely to Toggenburg, to Jonschwil. Jonschwil? If you asked yourself the same question, it should be explained that the Metallica concert was co-organized by SVP Cantonal Councilor Linus Thalmann. He is the founder of the Tufertschwil Open Air, which no longer exists today in its original form. And since Linus obviously maintains relationships with Metallica management, he was able to bring them to the deepest part of Toggenburg. Nice. Anyway ...
So we set off, contrary to what we originally planned, we didn't use the Public transport and the extra trains, because Alain decided to drive and accordingly to forego alcohol, which he did admirably and drank a single (!) beer the whole evening. Wow. Alain, thank you! But wait, in the narrative I haven't even reached Jonschwil, so slowly, we're not that far yet ... ;)

So we drove with Alains Rally Subaru from Bern towards Zurich, then Winterthur to actually leave the autobahn in Wil and head to Toggenburg. At least that was the plan, but what a strange formation opened up before our eyes as the traffic jammed kilometers before the Wil exit, only to condense in the hard shoulder and then to approach the exit more standing than rolling. Great, that can't be true. The exit itself is still a long way off and so it could only be a matter of hours until you got to the venue, after all it wasn't until 1730, it was wonderful. Neeeee, it couldn't really be, we thought, left the tin snake on the right and continued towards the Uzwil exit to try our luck there.

And lo and behold, Fortuna was kind to us a few kilometers further, in Uzwil you could usually use the motorway exit and so we didn't have to wait a long time and - guided by the nice lady in the GPS box - we could take the route Uzwil - Jonschwil . We succeeded very well, even if we had to drive through the middle of a village festival, on the left the children's carousel and the cotton candy stand and on the right the marquee with Hudigägeler and lots of people everywhere. One quick step on the gas and the way was free - nonsense, the crowd split up without any problems at the sight of Alain's rally rocket and so we could drive like Moses through the red sea, right through the village Kilbi. We brake for nobody! :)

We slowly approached the sheet metal snake again, which had already started miles before the exit, only we rolled into the sheet avalanche at Jonschwil, shortly before Degenau Park, and so we finally arrived at the park in 1830. The whole briefing actually worked without any problems, so that the organization of the open air could not be blamed for the traffic jam, but Metallica simply caused a traffic collapse in eastern Switzerland. Regardless, we left or arrived pretty well.

Finally the Degenau Park, we were there! At the place where the Californians stopped on their “Summer Vacation Tour” between Belgium and Ireland. 200 tons of stage material was brought up and 37 liters of beer, 000 sausages, 45 pizzas and around a ton of bread were available for the 000 fans. The construction work had been going on for more than a week. “14 employees are solely responsible for the stage,” says stage construction manager Markus Olma. "It's the same stage as at Rock im Park in Nuremberg." You saw that too. very cool! A giant stage between fruit trees and vines, planted in the middle of rural Toggenburg, that's musig! According to the Tagesschau, James Hetfield is said to have been impressed about the venue: “When we drove out of here, we said, it's nice here! But where are we going? Are we playing between the cows? " No, between the cider trees :)

Metallica has already sold over 25 million records in the almost 100 years of its existence. No band has shaped heavy metal as strongly as Metallica and at the same time was able to appeal to a mass audience. As you could see in the audience yesterday, Sunday. Almost 20 years ago, when I saw the guys for the first time in the Festhalle Bern, I would never have thought that this band would ever appeal to such masses, but so be it. The opening act We missed Mnemic thanks to the traffic jam and none of us had to have the yodelling of front woman Sharon Janny the nobility and symphonic metal of Within Temptation. Therefore first of all determined to Beer Beverage stand razor, after all, it's important to get enough fluids. So you grabbed 3 beers per nose - you don't just want to spend the day standing in line - and planted yourself on the floor, waiting for someone to have mercy on the poor, loudly complaining woman on stage and free her from the painful stage pain . The battered woman finally found redemption at around seven o'clock and our hearing was free for metaloid, thrashy sounds!

Fine. On up, once again supplied with liquid and slowly stabbed in front of the stage, as long as the effect persists after the opening act, that the pressure is great enough to have to get relief in the toilet and thus to make room for us in the front rows do. Very nice, everything went like clockwork and so we were standing about 10m away from the stage when the intro - “The Ecstasy of Gold” by Ennio Morricone for years - rang, followed by James Hetfield, Kirk Hammet, Robert Trujillo and Lars Ulrich with “Creeping Death”. Successful, well-known entry into the show :)

The third song was already a taste of the new album “Death Magnetic”, which will be released on September 12th, Cyanide was alluded to and based on the early placement of the new song in the show, the inclined fan could assume that the older songs from Metallica in particular will come into play on this evening. Yeah! That's exactly how it was! :)

With the first song I was able to do that again Headbanging don't resist and enjoyed it from the beginning to the end. Among other things, I found the girl funny, who suddenly stood next to me in admiration and said it was “u cool” what I was doing. Euhm, yes ... I replied that from my point of view this was nothing special, after all, it was a Metallica concert and anyway. She replied that I should have a look around, I was the only one in the hallway who shook his neck to the music. Amazed, I had to agree with her after I looked around and actually couldn't see anyone doing the same to me! I only earned astonished looks, as if I had come from Mars with green chocolate horns! Hello-o? Is there such a thing ?! I, with my more than 35 years in the whole audience - and there was some younger ones with me - the only headbanger? That is impossible :-O I do not care. The band plays “Whiplash” and there's no stopping them: Acting like a maniac! Whiplash !!!

Incidentally, the US rockers' concert lasted around two and a half hours and everyone present should have got their money's worth. Hetfield, Hammet, Trujillo and Ulrich heated up the frenetic Metallica fans. What remains is a huge battlefield made of rubbish, plastic cups and plates and bags and much more. I have seldom seen such a garbage dump after a concert at an open air. At most, Linus should think of a better garbage concept at another open air.

On the day after the concert, Linus Thalmann was also able to draw a positive balance at the request of the SDA. It is a sensation that a band like Metallica has performed in a small village in Toggenburg (I can only agree!). The major event was financially worthwhile for everyone involved. The ticket sales alone brought more than three million francs into the organizers' cash register. The proceeds from beverages and food will probably be around half that. Metallica, the guys are known for their astronomical fee demands, will have picked up around a third, but they were definitely worth it, because this concert was way better than the last one in Letzigrund. Brilliant concert! Great evening! Thx Metallica!

By the way, I got the pictures used in this article from the flickr album from Webtuefu. Since I am not a gifted photographer myself and photography does not go well with fear, I am very grateful to him! He makes the images available under Creative Commons. Thank you!

By the way, there are videos from the concert after the jump :)

"Dravens Tales from the Crypt" has been enchanting for over 15 years with a tasteless mixture of humor, serious journalism - for current events and unbalanced press reporting politics - and zombies, garnished with lots of art, entertainment and punk rock. Draven has turned his hobby into a popular brand that cannot be classified.

My blog was never designed to spread news, let alone get political, but with current affairs I just can't help but capture information here that is otherwise censored on all other channels. I'm aware that the design page may not seem "serious" to many in this regard, but I won't change it to please the "mainstream". Anyone who is open to non-state-compliant information sees the content and not the packaging. I've tried enough to provide people with information over the last 2 years, but quickly noticed that it never matters how it is "packaged", but what the other person's attitude towards it is. I don't want to put honey on anyone's mouth to meet expectations in any way, so I'll keep this design because hopefully at some point I'll be able to stop making these political statements, because it's not my goal to go on like this forever ;) I leave it up to everyone how they deal with it. It's hard for me to describe what I'm actually doing here, DravensTales has become a culture blog, music blog, shock blog, tech blog, horror blog, fun blog, a blog about found items on the internet, internet bizarre, trash blog, art blog, water heater, zeitgeist blog over the years , Scrap blog and grab bag blog called.
