I like to visit churches, but not as a believer in Christianity, but because of the great and extraordinary architecture. The church had (had) tons of money available to build epochal buildings. A very special example is to be “The Holy Cross Chapel”, which is to be built in the shape of a cross in the middle of a ledge by the sea. The Greek Architects Association OPA would like to implement the good piece on the edge of the island of Serifos. The island belongs to the Cyclades, an archipelago in the Aegean Sea and offers a fascinating view of a wonderful environment. Only the size of the building could be described as opulent, otherwise the design presents a very minimalist aesthetic. I like the clear design and the combination of the pure building materials glass, wood and concrete. There is more information about the project to see here...
It translates symbolism and millennia of tradition and belief into space with a materiality based on the simplicity and harmony of contemporary architecture. Purity of belief is celebrated in this minimalist design devoid of earthly distractive elements.
