Heavy metal legend James Hetfield has announced that he is leaving Metallica to start a new career in Nashville. He has been a member of Metallica for over 30 years and has done pretty much everything in the music business with this band. Now it is time to break new ground. Fans are shocked, a source close to the band stated that this step had been in preparation for a long time.
"It's time for me to go and refocus on my rural roots," Hetfield said in a statement. His debut album will be released in June and he will have his first performance at the Grand Ole Opry in July. Hetfield was recently spotted shopping in blue jeans and cowboy boots by paparazzi in Los Angeles. In an interview about his decision to leave the band, Hetfield says he's been a country singer at "his heart" for "four or five Metallica recordings." Here he's obviously referring to Metallica's less heavy-duty albums, where Hetfield's vocal performances are already strongly reminiscent of modern country.
'Hetfield Road' was recorded last fall and has been somewhat kept a secret from fans ever since. This debut album is expected to be a huge commercial success as the album also features guest appearances from Garth Brooks, Trisha Yearwood, Phil Anselmo and Eminem. According to a press release, the album will be sold with a pack of cigarettes and a bottle of whiskey. Fans can also purchase a 'VIP Edition' which includes 100% authentic tears from Hetfield, which shed while recording his new single 'My wife left me and my dog died'.
