Heavy metal legend James Hetfield has announced that he is leaving Metallica to start a new career in Nashville. He has been a member of Metallica for over 30 years and has done pretty much everything in the music business with this band. Now it is time to break new ground. Fans are shocked, a source close to the band stated that this step had been in preparation for a long time.
* It is time for me to go and focus on my rural roots again, ”said Hetfield. His debut album will be released in June and his first appearance at the Grand Ole Opry in July. Hetfield was recently spotted shopping in blue jeans and cowboy boots by paparazzi in Los Angeles. In an interview about his decision to leave the band, Hetfield said he was a country singer at “his heart” during “four or five Metallica recordings”. Here he is obviously referring to the less heavy-heavy Metallica albums, where Hetfield's vocal performances are already strongly reminiscent of modern country.
“Hetfield Road” was recorded last fall and has been kind of kept a secret from fans ever since. This debut album is expected to be a huge commercial hit as the album also features guest appearances from Garth Brooks, Trisha Yearwood, Phil Anselmo and Eminem. According to a press release, the album will be sold with a pack of cigarettes and a bottle of whiskey. Fans can also purchase a “VIP Edition” which contains 100% authentic tears from Hetfield that flowed while recording his new single “My wife left me and my dog died”.
