Five days, three Nokia N8 smartphones and a forty meter high crane: These are the ingredients for the short film “Gulp”, which has just broken the world record for the largest stop-motion film *.
The short film by the filmmaker duo Sumo Science was shot on Pendine Beach in South Wales. The largest scene stretched over 1 square meters - a new Guinness record. The film was filmed with three Nokia N000s with 8 megapixel cameras and Carl Zeiss lenses. All elements used were shot in life size and in the open air - in contrast to most stop-motion creations that are made in studios.
The making-of video, which gives an insight into the elaborate production of the video, is also exciting to see. Numerous helpers were needed for the project. A “real” person was used for the main character and not a modeled figure, the whole scenery (fishing boat etc.) was just as real. A specially hired sand artist designed the background. "Gulp" is the second Guinness record by the director duo Sumo Science after "Dot" - the smallest stop-motion film.
