In den Neunziger Jahren mussten Kiefer Sutherland, Kevin Bacon und Julia Roberts für ihre Suche nach dem «Was kommt nach unserem Ableben?» einen hohen Preis bezahlen. Weil die Thematik auch 27 Jahre später nichts an Faszination eingebüsst hat, macht sich Sony Pictures jetzt erneut daran, eine Antwort auf die alles entscheidende Frage zu finden, ob es ein Leben nach dem Tod gibt. Statt Roberts und Co. nehmen diesmal allerdings Nina Dobrev (Vampire Diaries), Ellen Page (Hard Candy), Beau Mirchoff (Scary Movie 4), Diego Luna, James Norton oder Kiersey Clemons an der Studie teil, die den Durchbruch bringen soll. Regie führte der Däne Niels Arden Oplev (Verblendung), während Ben Ripley (Source Code) das Drehbuch beisteuerte. Den düsteren und unheilvollen Look des Erstlings hat Niels Arden Oplev gegen ein eher modernes Erscheinungsbild eingetauscht, auch wenn die Horror-Elemente auch hier nicht kurz kommen sollen. Eines ist nämlich unverändert: Der Kontakt mit dem Jenseits bringt nichts Gutes zutage…
