"Dinu" by director Simon Aeby, who also successfully filmed Gottfried Keller's "The Fähnlein der Sieben Aufrechten" (The Fähnlein der Sieben Aufrechten), has a Helvetic variation on the boxing epic "Rocky» produces and amazingly turns out to be almost as exciting as the American model. Above all, Jonathan Loosli, who embodies the Simmental wrestler and small farmer's son Dinu, is a force and carries the story of the young Dinu Hediger, who wants to save his father's indebted farm and at the same time dreams of big sports. At the federal level, he even makes it into the final round, loses it and is nevertheless happy because he finds his love in the German veterinarian Laura (Hannah Binder) who has moved there. The portrayal of Dinu's father, who is played by Peter Freiburghaus, the male half of the «Duo Fischbach», is also great. A gnarled and twisted character, who also has her loving facets and ultimately turns out to be far smarter than expected.
The main leitmotif of the film is the wolf roaming around the pastures of Dinus Hof. It connects Dinu and Laura, both lonely wolves in their own way, and symbolizes both the love of the hunt and the sensitivity of the main character. Dinu is recognizable as an individual through his instinctive connection to the wolf, but as a wrestler and farmer he is nevertheless a full member of a rural society, which in turn is characterized by contradictions. Borrowing from Sylvester Stallones «Rocky» are obvious: A talent is discovered, motivated by a private event, the hopeful career is then apparently decisively quashed, hard toil brings the hero back on track, finally the honorable defeat, the lover's embrace and the prospect of a better future. Aeby proves that swinging is suitable for such combative stories and that his duels can be staged in a gripping manner. So now Switzerland has its Rocky too!
