After surviving the apocalypse, today we have something to play with. With ShadowGun, the development studio Madfinger Games has ushered in a new era of mobile gaming: Great graphics, multiplayer firefights - a game that made it clear that the gaming sector will no longer be divided between the Sonys, Microsofts and Nintendos of this world in the future . The Czech developers are now entering the second round with Dead Trigger. A post-apocalyptic world, bloodthirsty zombies and a survivor armed to the teeth - that's a zombie shooter. Anyone who thinks that games with brilliant graphics always cost a lot of money is wrong. Dead Trigger is available free of charge in the Google Play Store as well as in the iTunes Store, i.e. it can be played on Android or iPhone and is therefore already worth a look.
Graphically, the game is without a doubt one of the best in the entire App Store. While playing, you almost have the feeling of sitting in front of a small next-generation console and not in front of a mobile phone game. The Unity graphics engine shows impressive particle and water effects, and the anti-aliasing seems to work comparatively well, which is not a matter of course in mobile games. The level design in Dead Trigger is relatively well done: blood-smeared walls and puddles on the floor, in combination with destroyed objects that are scattered throughout the levels, create that extra little bit of apocalyptic atmosphere. They tried hard to bring some variety into the design of the levels through different locations, but they all look very similar in structure. One of the reasons for this is that most of the levels are generated randomly. There is a bit of Resident Evil flair in the game: whether you're wandering through an abandoned department store to extract equipment or protecting civilians from approaching zombie hordes in back alleys - the location and atmosphere are always consistent. This feeling is supported by the convincing movement animations of the zombies when they crawl and shuffle from all corners of the level, moaning and groaning. Basically, the game is a classic first-person shooter with no big surprises. The zombies dutifully stagger towards the player only to be struck down with a volley of lead.
The controls are a bit jittery, especially at the beginning, but with a little practice running, aiming and shooting can be done quite quickly. As soon as you have finally freed the first zombie horde from their constantly hungry existence in an introductory level, you will find yourself in an overview map. The fictional city shown here offers several missions that can be gradually unlocked. In addition to the main quest that drives the story, there are also side quests to be completed. In these, for example, you have to kill a certain number of zombies and rescue or protect objects or people. During and after the missions, there is money and occasionally equipment, such as grenades, as a reward. The money can then be used in the shop to buy weapons and additional equipment or passive skills (perks) that allow you, for example, to run (a useful skill when a bunch of zombies stick around your heels), or to upgrade your weapons and prepare yourself for the better next missions.
The Dead Trigger story isn't exactly new: we're in the game in 2012, too, the world's leaders are corrupt, the economy has collapsed, and in the midst of this chaos, an aggressive virus is breaking out that turns people into zombies. Of course, the last survivors do everything to survive and wage a bitter fight against the bloodthirsty brain gourmets, with whom they may have met for coffee or squash a few weeks ago. Not much is said about your character in the game, but basically it's a guy with a gun who understandably just doesn't feel like ending up as a zombie hors d'oeuvre.
Have you already installed and played Dead Trigger? What do you think of that?
