Die beiden Actionveteranen Jean-Claude Van Damme und Dolph Lundgren standen schon mehrfach gemeinsam vor der Kamera, zum ersten Mal 1992 in «Universal Soldier» und zuletzt in «The Expendables 2». Nun arbeiten die beiden Schauspieler ein weiteres Mal zusammen. Nachdem sie in ihren bisherigen Filmen aber meist Widersacher gespielt haben, bilden sie für «Black Water» ein Team. Das Drehbuch zum Film stammt von Chad Law. Tyler W. Konney und Richard Switzer sind die Produzenten. Dolph Lundgren hatte seinen Durchbruch als Ivan Drago in «Rocky IV – Der Kampf des Jahrhunderts». Der schwedische Schauspieler war 2016 im Horrorfilm «Don’t Kill It» zu sehen, in dem er die Hauptrolle spielte. In der bereits in den US&A angelaufenen, 5. Staffel der Serie «Arrow» spielt er einen Bösewicht. Jean-Claude Van Damme hatte seine letzten Auftritt vor der Kamera mit der Hauptrolle im 2016 erschienen Film «Kickboxer: Die Vergeltung». Der belgische Kampfsportler ist auch als Synchronsprecher aktiv und war «Kung Fu Panda 3» als Meister Durand zu hören. «Black Water» soll in einem von der CIA als Geheimgefängnis genutztem U-Boot spielen, in dem ein Geheimagent, gespielt von Jean-Claude Van Damme, aufwacht…
