The British rock veterans UFO are around the corner these days with their 22nd studio album. One of the most British rock bands in music history has recorded a studio album in their native England for the first time in over 20 years. The work is called "A Conspiracy Of Stars" and to get straight to the point: there are no big surprises in this part. Lyrically and stylistically, the band breathes exactly that English sovereignty for which this band has been known for more than 45 years. A strong piece of music that extends over eleven new songs and combines everything that the group around frontman Phil Mogg stands for: robust riffs, distinctive hooks, varied songwriting, intelligent lyrics and a generally calm attitude, as it has always been from UFO kennt.
They got themselves up again, with the 22nd studio album called “A Conspiracy Of Stars” the British rockers UFO added one more to their almost unbelievable list of albums produced and, like on the previous records, the album is rock solid classic rock in modern times Sound dress delivered. With the long player, UFO are also presenting their current line-up for the first time: In addition to the original members Phil Mogg (vocals), Paul Raymond (keyboards, guitar) and Andy Parker (drums) as well as lead guitarist Vinnie Moore, who has been part of the group since 2004, has also been part of the group since 2012 the American bassist Rob De Luca joined the band. De Luca is not only a brilliant instrumentalist, but also as a songwriter contributed two pieces to the new album. Most of the new material comes from Vinnie Moore, there is also a song by Paul Raymond and a collaboration between Raymond and De Luca. As always, all lyrics were written by front man Phil Mogg.
The fact that «A Conspiracy Of Stars» was produced and mixed by Chris Tsangarides (Judas Priest, Thin Lizzy, Gary Moore, etc.) can also be seen as another crucial piece of the mosaic of a coherent release. Creatively, however, all of this does not come close to the classics from the times with Michael Schenker. However, the sound and craftsmanship of those involved are beyond any doubt and the band offers some real hits on the record such as the opener "The Killing Kind" or the original quasi-reggae "The Real Deal". In terms of width, however, the compositions lack the highlights a little, without there being any real failures. You can attend the rock/hard rock show by UFO for 50 minutes and the disc shows how past and present merge into a homogeneous unit.
After more than 45 years of experience, UFO press very homogeneous and massive arrangements onto the blank. The melodies are deep and set instantly and the riffs are gritty and the drums are crisp. Once again, Mogg proves his abilities as a precise observer of the human species. Despite his exceptional position in the international rock'n'roll business, the Briton has remained a man of the people. Mogg sympathizes with the working class in England, this is where his roots are, and the UFO singer is still drawn to these people. You can hear this origin in his songs, his lyrics, which, despite all the puns and deliberate ambiguities, always show his absolute down-to-earth attitude.
The gentlemen have been involved in the business since 1969 and Tsangarides was already a 14-year-old intern in the studio when UFO produced their debut album UFO 1970 in England in 1. Her latest work is an output beyond compare. «A Conspiracy Of Stars» has a very varied songwriting and thus there is never a dull moment. They skilfully build in one or the other solo and make the entire record very round and more than audible. Eleven tracks full of listening pleasure and overall Mogg & Co win the showdown with the collected ex-bandmates "House of X" - previously known as X-UFO - who have a stylistically similar disc at the start. "A Conspiracy Of Stars" has become a great album, the tour for the album for spring 2015 is already booked and UFO are well prepared to open the 22nd chapter of their career. Respect!
