«Glamor of the Kill» step on the gas pedal with their second disc «Savages» and they rock, the Brits. There isn't much more to say. Thanks to great songwriting, strong hooks and fat productions, «Glamor of the Kill» Already very successful in the UK. Now the guys are preparing to conquer the rest of the world and with this album, which consists of "all killer no filler", they could also succeed!
According to their own definition, the band's musical orientation is «post-hardcore», which I can't relate to in terms of the term. Messrs Davey Richmond (vocals, bass), Chris Gomerson (guitar), Mike Kingswood (guitar) and Ben Thomson (drums) have an exceptionally good feeling for melodies and that also polyphonically. After two EPs (“Through The Darkness They March”, 2007 and “Glamour Of The Kill”, 2008) and their debut album “The Summoning” (2011), the second album “Savages” is now in the starting blocks. This was produced by Joey Sturgis (Asking Alexandria).
Numbers like the first single "Break", which is also the opener of the album and features guest singer Michael Vampire from "Vampires Everywhere", as well as the following "A Freak Like Me", "Rescue Me", "Leave It All Behind» or the only rather calmer piece «Tears Of The Sun» are simply direct hits. There's definitely going to be a lot going on live! Visually, too, the tattooed group meets all the requirements of a modern rock band – actually, I don't give a damn about the visuals, but I mention that because a look at the guys shows relatively well what kind of music they make. Even if they look a bit wilder than they sound on the record. This is where «Papa Roach» came to my mind, although I don't know their stuff well and therefore can't say whether the degree of hardness is higher or not. Fired so purely from the hip, the guitar level and aggression is higher here.
It is extremely positive that the eleven numbers ultimately do not offer a single slack. Ok, some numbers may sound very similar to "side listeners", but you can't blame anyone for that anymore, these days they're called trademarks. Also – and that's the decisive factor – the numbers are absolutely successful individually and I really couldn't name a song that doesn't really rock. For example the bouncer «Welcome To Hell». What kind of number! Strong start, cool verses and a killer refrain! Above all, the alternation between the driving and bludgeoning drums and guitar parts to the smooth double vocal lines are really very successful. What's more, there are (almost) no growls at all.
England's successful Party Animals will release their new album in our latitudes on September 20th. The whole thing comes in compact seasons, everything packed in around three minutes and the party can start. This is a disc that I'm sure will rotate more often in my player because the mix just works. And not everyone writes a song like «Welcome To Hell». Respect. listen. Absolutely!
