"A Cure for Wellness" is the name of the eagerly awaited return to the genre by "The Ring" creator Gore Verbinski (Pirates of the Caribbean), who made his breakthrough in this genre almost exactly 14 years ago. The film takes us straight to an alleged sanatorium that hides a horrible secret. What that is and whether main actor Dane DeHaan (Chronicle – What are you capable of) can free his boss from the clutches of an unscrupulous community is to be explored on cinema screens from February 2017. Gore Verbinski sees "A Cure for Wellness" less as a horror film and more as a nightmare that is becoming increasingly threatening: "I would rather see the film described as a psychological thriller, because with the horror stamp it is often the case that viewers expect sudden jumpscares and fast horror . With us, the horror tends to cook on a low flame, but increases over time." Above all, I like the look of the film, but I can't really imagine what's actually going on here. The synopsis tells us a bit more, but it still all sounds pretty wacky:
An ambitious young executive is sent to retrieve his company's CEO from an idyllic but mysterious “wellness center” at a remote location in the Swiss Alps. He soon suspects that the spa's miraculous treatments are not what they seem. When he begins to unravel its terrifying secrets, his sanity is tested, as he finds himself diagnosed with the same curious illness that keeps all the guests here longing for the cure.
I'm really excited to see what Gore Verbinski has done here. Then on February 23rd!
